The last thing we, as treating providers, and members of Professionally Integrated should be concerned with, is how much money a patient may get in a settlement for a car crash. We are here to treat, help, document ,educate, and explain their injuries.  However, one thing that I hate is when a patient sees a doctor for injuries sustained in a car crash and that doctor does not really understand the science behind the mechanism of injury, and the injuries themselves. Here is a patient who was rear ended and was pushed into a car in front of her, totaling her car. She had no prior injuries. This patient saw a chiropractor for three months for what she was told was “whiplash.” No other diagnosis was given to her, or the insurance company. This patient settled her claim for $400 because she had no way to educate the insurance company what her injuries really were or what they would mean to her long term. Now she is getting increased arthritis from her buckled curve, something the research strongly suggests will happen. Her pain is more chronic and treatment will exceed $400. Lets be doctors and document and educate what the science is suggesting. Many of these injuries that are common in car crashes like a kyphotic neck are not self resolving and when left untreated will most likely get worse!

Here is what her cervical xrays look like. $400
